Horizon VA was established in 2018 by me, Sarah Broadbent. After 17 years in the Royal Navy as a Logistics Officer, I realised my experience in leadership, management and administration could be put to fantastic use as a Virtual Assistant.
To do what I hear you say? Well, to do just about anything and everything. Why? Because that’s what I’m used to and thrive on. Turning my hand to whatever gets thrown at me. Of course, I mean metaphorically, not literally.
Life is What You Make It
I definitely made the best of my days in the Navy. I thrived on the variety of jobs, working with people and the many challenges. As a leader and manager I loved being able to nurture and empower my own team, as well as developing and growing my own strengths. But what I especially enjoyed was helping others to achieve their goals.
An Insight Into My Background
Here’s a flavour of my past roles: being an Executive Assistant – supporting the Commanding Officer, handling sensitive documents, personnel issues and report writing for up to 2000 people; as Personal Assistant to an Admiral – organising his working life away from the office, global visits and inspections of ships at sea and being his bag carrier (yes I really was!); working in MOD policy and legal research – empowered to handle and administer highly sensitive personnel cases and advising Commanding Officer’s throughout the naval service; managing the Navy’s premier Officers’ Mess – planning many large, high profile VIP events and securing funding for the listed building; as head of a Hotel Services department – project management of a major change to catering services and a new accommodation build in addition to my day job of running a department of over 150 staff; managed a large Air Stores and Supply Chain department – delivering global support to aircraft and ships 24/7.

I have bags of enthusiasm and I am super friendly which means I’m approachable and dedicated. My background means I have a strong sense of values, a sense of duty, I’m hardworking and loyal. I’m flexible, committed, love organising and I have great negotiating and mentoring skills. All mixed with oodles of self-discipline and a fantastic can do approach…oh and don’t forget a good sense of humour!
